Being No One Else

True to God, True to Self

Nov 28, 2005

Saying For Today: In being true to God, you are being true to yourself; in being true to yourself, you are being true to God.

Mezzo-soprano Susan Graham was profiled in the Texas Monthly, December 1996 edition. Graham was a rising star in opera. Writer Jamie Schilling Fields tried to compare Graham with one of the legendary mezzo-sopranos, asking if she could be the next Cecilia Bartoli. Graham affirmed, “I’m not sure I want to be the next anyone. I’d rather be the first Susan Graham.”

The self we lose when following Christ is not the Real Self. The Real Self is you being true to yourself. In being true to God, you are being true to yourself; in being true to yourself, you are being true to God.

Question: How are you being truly yourself? What challenges do you face in being your self? How are you meeting those challenges? How do you discern when you are being true to yourself?
