Spiritual Leadership

The Seeing Leading Others in Seeing

Sep 6, 2007

Saying For Today: Spiritual leading, essentially, is not about sharing spiritual information. Spiritual guidance is about being a means of the energy of Spirit to touch the other.

Scripture

12 His followers came to Him. They said, "Did You know the proud religious law-keepers were ashamed and turned away because of You when they heard this?" 13 He said, "Every plant that My Father in heaven did not plant will be pulled up by the roots. 14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. If one blind man leads another blind man, they will both fall into a hole."

*Matthew 15.12-14 (NLV)

Wisdom Story

An elderly woman stood on a busy street corner, hesitant to cross, for there was no traffic signal. As she waited, a gentleman came up and asked, "May I cross over with you?" Relieved, she thanked him and took his arm.

The path they took was anything but safe. The man seemed to be confused as they dodged traffic and walked in a zig-zag pattern across the street. "You almost got us killed!" the woman exclaimed angrily when they reached the curb. "You walk like you're blind!" "I am," he replied. "That's why I asked if I could cross with you."

Comments

Does Jesus ever compromise the truth that a person can be devoutly religious and spiritually blind? The claim of insight to lead others spiritually itself does not mean one is prepared to lead spiritually.

One must be spiritual to lead spiritually. Otherwise, one is both blind spiritually and dead spiritually, regardless of the religious insight and biblical knowledge she claims to have and seeks to share.

Spiritual leading, essentially, is not about sharing spiritual information. Spiritual guidance is about being a means of the energy of Spirit to touch the other.

Suggested Reflection

Have you ever be led by a true spiritual person? What was the person like? How did her leadership differ from only-religious leaders?
