Learning to Fly

Reflections from Solitude and Silence No. 5

May 28, 2018

Saying For Today: Life is always giving itself, just look all around you. See, life is about learning to fly.

This is the fifth of the series of reflections arising from a month in silence and solitude; the musings invite the reader to explore the Truth for himself or herself. May the writer's reflections be windows to look in, or out, onto the vista of our one Beloved, our deepest, truest Self. Peace! Brian

Time in meditation is time in life. Life is crazy, all over the place, many textures, changing constantly. Each moment is like turning a corner, having no idea what will be there. Life does not asks for permission from us to be like this. Sometimes we feel hugged warmly, at other times like life is doing all it can to avoid us, to leave us feeling unwanted, uncared for. Some persons may say they have not had this experience with life, I am not sure that itself is a positive thing, I am not certain that person is talking about life. Life just happens, means change just happens. You can fuss about that, try to change it, try to find some means to explain it ~ all futile ~ impossible, life is life. So, why would anyone think anything would be different in meditation? When you see this, you see meditation is not a time away from life, like, "What a relief! a break from life!" No, no break, no get out-of-life-for-even-a-moment-free card. Sitting there, you are given opportunity to learn humbleness, for just sitting day after day, you will be humiliated. Sometimes, you will squirm and really want to get up and run away. And a wonderful thing happens, quietly amidst all happening there. You begin to love life more and more, all of it, just as it is, the heavenly and the heartbreak. You no longer want an escape, you want only oneness with this life, right here, right now. This loving is as beautiful and intense as any love affair, as any love of any god or goddess, yes, this love of your life. And you come to appreciate, you are life, and you love yourself more and more, and you embrace the wonder of your life with a playful and joyful curiosity. And, somehow, in a way you have never been told or can be told, this will never end, for it never began.

keep your way
hidden

'Silent!'

quietly look
all around you

see how
the Fruit of the Sun
glows with life

see how
every living thing proclaims

'I Love Her!'

the perfume of the Lover
is witness to her love
for the Beloved

no
I Love Yous needed

did you just hear
that?

confused?
very good

Now,
enough
just breathe

this
one Moment

What do we do? Cry if we feel the need, feel the tears running out the eyes and down the face, wet and lively. Scream if we need, either in joy or grief. Embrace all our feelings, while not indulging them. Welcome the feeling of the risk of loving, even yourself. Enjoy the dance. Remain curious about the playfulness of playful Grace. Play with Life, let Life play with you. Know what you really want is not pleasure, but joy, not escape, but ecstasy. Have fun, when able. The rest of the time, be content with not having fun. Daily, wake up in Love, go to sleep in Love. Fall in Love with it all. Life is always giving itself, just look all around you. See, life is about learning to fly.
