Freedom from the Tyranny of the Urgent

On Inner Solitude

Page 2

We have a choice. We can choose to live in subjection to the cultural fascination with urgency. There, thankfully, is another option. We can choose a way that leads to a spiritual in-depthness that will enrich immensely our relationship with God, others, and ourselves.

We can choose to be freed from the tyranny of the urgent.

Certainly, God did not create us to live in such captivity. Do you agree that we are made for something far better than captivity to demands, noise, busyness, and schedules?

Suggested Reflection
:

Pray about a daily practice of inner Solitude. Be honest about whether you are willing to commit to such a spiritual discipline in 2007. Consider what attachments~inner or outer~that you might need to give up to fulfill the commitment. If you find yourself forming purported reasons you cannot commit to inner Solitude, pray about each honestly.
